His grandfather was a child psychologist. Someone who talks to children, plays with them, makes music and draws with them and asks them how they view the world. His grandfather lived in Israel. The children he talked to had all lived through a great war and survived. They were superheroes. But even superheroes are afraid sometimes and this is what his grandfather used to try and talk about. In Zoek het lekker zelf uit! (Figure it out for yourself!), Ilay den Boer and his audience explore the way a child that has experienced war sees the world. Together they have to immerse themselves in the world of the ‘other’. This may mean they will have to deal with each other and see each other in completely new ways. This performance is the fourth step the Dutch/Israeli theatre maker Ilay den Boer is taking in his six-part series Het Beloofde Feest. Creating personal family portraits, he investigates his native Israel and Jewish history. And attempts to describe what you scannot capture. Both the first and second part Eet Smakelijk and Janken en Schieten have been presented at Festival a/d Werf.
